Health Museum is located in Hyderabad near Public Gardens. "A
very fine and healthy museum. I wish other cities had something like
this. "The words of Jawaharlal Nehru displayed prominently at
the entrance welcome you into the museum. Those words, and the
museum too, can be dated back to 50 years. Started in 1948, it
remains the same till today - no additions, no subtractions, no
updating and no further divisions. It still dons the same look of
the late 40s. The museum, which almost is as old as India, imitates
the nation quite closely in every respect. It reflects the lack of
dedication, commitment, progress and improvement, and concepts like
poverty and ignorance.
The museum is divided into two sections by two huge halls. One hall
is related to nutrition, health (school and industrial), illnesses
like cancer, malaria, TB and leprosy, anatomy, immunization, etc.,
the second hall is completely dedicated to Motherhood and
Childbirth. A series of wooden boards giving all the necessary
details about how to maintain and improve health, photographs of
various medical discoverers and distinguished visitors at the museum
and so on are displayed at all strategic places. Museum has a
library, conducts lectures and play film shows. Films are shown on
Wednesdays and Saturdays.
