Location
Srisailam is a small town located in one of the southern states of
Indian sub continent, Andhra Pradesh. The region is located towards
the south of the capital city, Hyderabad, and on the banks of river
Krishna. The region is marked by a terrain surrounding that house
several popular attractions in the town. From Hyderabad city,
Srisailam is as much as 220 kilometres away.
Overview
Srisailam is a small town in the Kurnool district of Andhra
Pradesh. The place is surrounded by forest lands of the Nallamalai
Hills. The region is a popular tourist destination due to the
presence of many beautiful and sacred places. The area is marked by
lush forest floors, inhabiting many a species of woodland animals,
landscaped hillocks with the river traversing at many points and a
healthy environment that heals up the body and soul.
Attractions
The Saivaite temples of Srisailam continue to be the most visited
places in the town. These temples are believed to be built as long
back as second century A.D. The site featuring the temples is quite
distinct from other sites. The place features kind of encampment,
not present at other places. The Mallikarjunaswamy Temple, located
on a hill is a sacred place and holds a great historical
significance. The temple features 12 Jyothirlingas, found at only
few places in the country.
Srisailam Sanctuary that lies sprawling here is also very popular.
Dry decidous forests spread all over and in to the adjoining regions
of Guntur, Prakasam, Kuntoor, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts.
Several species of deer, tigers, panthers, sloth bears, wild dogs
and crocodiles breed here.
The 512 m long dam called Srisailam Dam is a great attraction as
well. The dam or hydro electric project is one of the major ones in
the country.
Accessibility
There is an extensive road and railway network connecting Srisailam
with other regions. Buses and trains ply from nearby cities and
towns.

Close to the popular worshipping places are located a number of
cottages and lodgings than can be rented out at affordable rates.
