Location
Vijayawada city is located some 265 kilometres from Hyderabad city
in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The city is located on the banks of
Krishna river and is the third largest city in the state. Vijayawada
lies in the Krishna district and features a major railway junction.
The western periphery is bounded by Indrakiladri Hills and towards
the north lies Budameru Canal.

According to a popular belief the place got its name when Goddess
Durga came to rest here after slaying a demon. Since she came after
being victorious the place derived the title (Vijaya meaning
victorious). The place happens to be an important religious centre
for Hindus and Buddhists. Vijayawada is also popular as a learning
and cultural centre in Andhra Pradesh state. Some great celebrities
of India have been from this place. And to add to all that the
region is doing good in business. Commercial activities are on the

Attractions
The chief attractions of Vijayada are undoubtedly the worshipping
places and the shrines. Kanaka Durga Temple, located on a hill
happens to be famous all over. St.Mary's Church and Gunadala Matha
Shrine, located close to each other are attended by hundreds of
people every year. Some other attractions in the region are Rajiv
Gandhi Park, Victoria Museum, Mogalarajapuram caves, Hazrat Bal
Mosque, Kondapali Fort and Mangalagiri.
Accessibility
There are a number of options of reaching the place from Hyderabad
or any other city around. The place has one of the largest railway
junctions of South Central Railways. As such it is connected to most
of the cities that lie around. There are numerous roads that provide
for bus services. The nearest airport is located only twenty
kilometres away and at Gannavaram. Domestic flight from Hyderabad to
Vijayawada takes about 30 minutes.
