Umda Bazar lies a little south of the Musi River that runs
through the city of Hyderabad. The Old Bridge constructed over the
river leads to the place. The region represents one among the many
in the Old City of Hyderabad. Umda Bazar is surrounded by a number
of residential places and small roads that help in commuting from
different parts of the city.
Umda Bazar is essentially a residential place and the region falls
in what is popularly referred as the Old City or Sheher. The Old
City is replete with shops that sell some exclusive articles and
goods. The region is replete with age old shops that have been
serving generations of population. Most notable are the pearl shops
and shops selling perfumes and Ittar (kind of perfume).
Umda Bazar with the surrounding localities like Dudh Bowli, Purana
Kabutarkhana, Kamatipura, Chandulal Baradari, Fateh Darwaza and
Himmatpura have retained certain traditional values. The regions
however, have been witnessing a great population increase in the
last few decades.
Charminar and Mecca Masjid are some of the attractions situated
nearby. These sites are located towards the east of Umda Bazar, not
more than two kilometres away. Towards the west is the famous animal
reserve, Nehru Zoological Park. Umda Bazar as such features the
marvels of the past and the contemporary. The regions around bear
both the impressions of Old City and the progressive modern one.
